Elysium takes place in the year 2159. The Earth is in ruins and most of humankind is living a miserable existence where the poverty and dreadful poor standard of living are global. However the rich live in a luxurious space station called Elysium. Living in Elysium is a fantasy to all the unfortunate citizens of Earth as in Elysium there is no such thing as poverty, sickness, diseases, or struggle in general. In Elysium there are capsules that have the capability to heal any disease, injury or even bring back a human from the dead as long as the person's brain is not damaged in any way. However, these capsules are only available to the citizens of Elysium and not Earth. But a citizen of Earth named Max is about to change that when he gets in an accident at his factory job where a great amount of lethal radiation enters his body. He is told that he only has five days to live so he decides to take action on his life long dream of going to Elysium in order to gain access to one of the capsules that can save his life.
To me, this film was flawless. I thought that the plot and setting were very compelling and interesting. I really enjoyed the way the film makers captured the extremely poor conditions the people in Earth were left to live in. Also the character development of the main character was captured very well as they showed him and childhood and how his greatest desire was going to Elysium. The acting was convincing and overall this was a very enjoyable film to watch.

The film Crash takes place in Los Angeles, California. In the movie the characters collide due to issues of gender and race. The film shows this through different perspectives of the characters yet it all connects to each other to form one story. The characters of this movie are a Daniel, a hard working Hispanic father who tries to provide for his family, Graham, a racist police detective, two African American men who steal an SUV, the husband and wife that get their car stolen, Farhad, a Middle Eastern worker that is constantly threatened due to the 9/11 attacks and more characters that make this multi perspective movie into one big story. I think it was something new and creative to include different perspectives and I liked the way they introduced the characters, I think both these things went well with the film. However, the film started off good but after a while of watching I got a bit lost on what was going on. That's where I think the film lacked was keeping the audience hooked. Other than that it was a pretty enjoyable film to watch because of the different perspectives and witnessing the characters collide. The film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the Secret of the Ooze is about four mutant turtles, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo who have ninja abilities and fight crime. In the film the antagonist Shredder tries to steal the ooze that made the turtles mutant in order to create his own army. So it's up to the heroes to use their fighting skills to try and stop him. There was plenty of good things with this film and one of them I have to say is the plot. The plot was very easy to understand because the whole story was mainly based on the goal to stop Shredder from getting his hands on the ooze. It flowed well and another thing that worked out with the film was the humor. Although the humor was a little old fashioned and cheesy (because the movie was made in 1990) it really made the film fun to watch. Another thing I found cool was that one of the scenes took place at a concert. However there was still some bad things with the film that I didn't really like. One of them was the silliness that took place. Some of it made me cringe a little like when the rapper at the concert freestyles about the Ninja Turtles on the spot. And some of it just made me think to myself, "well that's kind of dumb" like when Shredder dies by knocking down a pier on himself. Other than that, I overall did like watching this film because it was a pretty fun movie. At first I thought I was gonna hate it because I'm not a very big fan of old fashioned movies, I most of the time prefer modern films but I didn't end up hating it. I liked it and I thought it was enjoyable. |
